Bias cut skirt without a zip? Brilliant

I’ve been a huge Megan Nielsen fan since discovering her patterns several years ago. Wattle was bought at the same time as Flint, Floreat & Jarrah in an introductory offer from a physical & on-line shop in the U.K. back in 2018. Surprisingly, although the Wattle really attracted me to the bundle (along with the Flint due to their unique fastening method) I only got round to sewing it up this year for my daughter’s April birthday. It sews up easily like its Flint sibling and as usual the instructions are clear to understand. I made view A, Bias cut midi length. It drapes beautifully, the waistband is comfortable and the pockets are flattering on a pair shape body like mine and my daughters, much kinder than in seam pockets which add bulk in an already ample area. 😂 I used a mid weight linen that has an incredible drape, it swishes around my daughters legs and hangs oh so well. Love it.

    Really Clever!

I love how much more comfortable it is to wear a skirt without a zipper. The closure on the waistband combined with the semi-open pocket is very clever! As an added bonus, the pockets are big enough to be useful. The included finished garment measurements and thorough size chart meant I had no trouble picking my best size right off the bat-- I could have worn my toile, it fit so well!

    Lovely!

First off, I’m a beginner sewer as of six weeks ago. With that in mind, I found the pattern super simple to follow with the help of this site’s short Wattle tutorials. I didn’t get the button on the correct side of the skirt, but it still fits and looks great. I plan to make more skirts using this pattern and learn how to add a lining. Fabric was purchased from Harts Fabric located in Santa Cruz, CA.
