For tips on making sure you’re measuring yourself properly, see our blog entry here.

What is the seam allowance – is it included in the pattern?

Seam allowances are included in all patterns and are 5/8” (1.5cm) unless otherwise stated. For tips on making sure you’re measuring yourself properly, see our blog entry here.

What equipment do I need to start sewing your patterns (do I need an overlocker)?

You don’t need any fancy equipment to make our patterns, just a sewing machine, pins and scissors (ok, maybe a few more things but you get the idea). Overlockers are nice but not essential.

Where do you buy your fabric?
All over the place. There are lots of great local and online fabric shops. Check out this blog piece on Perth-based shops and keep an eye out on Facebook/Instagram for more great finds. Anything we’ve missed? Let us know at hello@megannielsen.com.

I need help altering my pattern.

We’ve got lots of hints and tips relating to our patterns here as well as additional tutorials for creating pattern variations so you can get the most value out of your pattern.

How do I construct my PDF pattern?
PDF patterns include all instructions and tiled pattern pieces, and can be printed at home on either letter or A4 size paper. Print out the pattern page that contains the calibration square first. Measure the 2” (5cm) calibration square to make sure the pattern was printed to the right size. If the calibration is off you may need to adjust your printer settings. Cut or fold around the border around the pattern tiles and tape or glue the pieces together using the makers on each edge as a guide.

Why aren’t all patterns available as PDFs?

Most of them are but we just haven’t had a chance to convert all of them yet. We’re working on it though so keep checking back. If there’s anything you’re desperate for, let us know at hello@megannielsen.com and if there’s enough demand we’ll look in to it. If you’d like to be notified when new patterns become available sign up for our newsletter here.

Do you sell patterns in different sizes?

All our patterns are for sizes XS-XL. Check listing images for size charts.

I like the designs but don’t want to make them myself. Do you sell them pre-made?
Not at the moment, sorry. We’re focusing on making top quality, gorgeous, fashion forward sewing patterns instead. Periodically we have sample sales, and if you’d like to be notified when these occur sign up to our mailing list here.

How do I become a pattern tester?

We’re so grateful for all the help we get from the sewing community testing patterns before they are released. There are no special requirements for pattern testing, you don’t need to be an expert seamstress, have a blog or jump through any hoops.  Just fill out the form to test women's patterns here. Pattern testers are chosen fairly randomly, using a cross-section of sizes and expertise for each pattern, but we do try to work our way through the list to make sure as many people get a turn as possible.

I’d like to become a wholesaler.
Great, we love working with wholesalers! Email hello@megannielsen.com for up to date pricing and ordering information, and to open your account.
