    Opal Pants and Shorts

I just finished the Opal pants pattern and am really happy with it. I have a hard time finding pants/slacks that fit my petite frame but these sure do! I made them out of rayon batik and they are just what I wanted. Thanks for the great pattern!

Love this pattern - and easy for a beginner

I’ve only made a few garments (I just started seeing 3 months ago). This has been, by far, my most successful sew. I didn’t make any mistakes (yay me! But also the directions were clear enough for me to follow). I did kinda size down (chose the smaller size between two) and it was the right choice. I used linen and it looks great. I’m making a second pair using a vintage polyester suit fabric and extending the paper bag waist to be more prominent. So far so good!

The instructions great. Good fit too, I made the size 14 my measurements of 33W: 40H. I was looking for a relaxed fitting pair of trousers and these fit the bill perfectly!

Lovely shorts - made UK size 18

I picked the size for my measurements and made some summer shorts and they came out really well in a tencel - very versatile smart or casual pattern.
The length / pocket / waistband options are all great and it looks like it would be easy to make adjustments to pattern for any fit preferences. The only slight niggle was that there wasn’t any recommendation for how to finish the seams (I ended up flat felling the front and back crotch seams and ironed the side seams open), in the pattern it just says to finish however you like - but this no real issue as beginners and more advanced sewers would have different preferences.
I would say to make sure your elastic is quite firm as mine wasn’t and the paper bag effect isn’t as pronounced as it could be.
All in all, looks great, sizing was good for me with no adjustments, will make again.
