So very berry

2010-02-21 1

I’m so into shades of Berry at the moment. I just want to wear Berry everthing. So why not put on a Berry coloured Alice Band, Berry dress, and Berry tights… all together? As a side note, sorry to everyone who can’t find their desired size in my store at the moment. Most items are running quite low on stock, and a lot of people have been asking when I will be getting more in – but don’t worry, I will be getting in more stock in the next few weeks (after baby arrives!) so thanks for your patience :)

Meanwhile people it’s the final countdown! I am due on FRIDAY! Of course I know that means pretty much nothing… especially since I was overdue with Bunny, and my mom was overdue with both my brother and I… I don’t know how much of an impact all of that has, but I have a feeling I’ll probably be late again. Whatever the case, I figure if I prepare myself for being late then I won’t be as impatient… well we’ll see, patience has never been my strong suit!

Anyway, here I am before church on Sunday… and man was it a nice day. It was just above freezing and it was just beautiful. I guess we’re so used to the super cold weather that it almost felt, well, warm! Overall it was a really great weekend. I started feeling much better on Friday night, so Hubby and I took Bunny out for icecream, and on Saturday arvo we went for a nice walk through one of our local nature reserves, followed by a coffee. It was such a great weekend, and it was so nice to get out of the house and not feel sickly! Though I kind of wish I’d gone into labour then because it would of made a great story. I think I would have embellished the details quite a bit, so that the stroll ended up more like a vigorous hike, and our warmish saturday was a frigid -20F, and the nicely groomed natured trail was a treacherous snowy patch of wilderness… But since I’m obviously still hugely pregnant, I guess I won’t get to tell any crazy stories!

How to make a wrap around maternity top – with FREE pattern

2010-01-10 3

Gosh it’s taken me so long to get this pattern ready for you guys (literally a few months), but I really wanted it to be perfect because I’m trying something a little new for some of my tutorials. A lot of people ask me for much more complicated tutorials than I can really explain without actually providing a pattern, so I’m trialing offering you guys some full size patterns to download. What do you think? Great huh?

So anyway, it’s in PDF form, with instructions and diagrams and a full size pattern graded to sizes S, M and L, that you can print off and tape together. It’s actually in the exact same format as my PDF tutorials, and the patterns for my nursing top and nursing PJ’s, so if you’ve bought those sewing patterns from me in the past you’ll be familiar with the way they work :)

2010-01-10 6

The top is a wrap around maternity top made with 4 way stretch, Jersey fabric. I originally made two of these tops for one of my fabulous friends when she was pregnant, and though I’d like to claim that the design is mine, it really isn’t. It’s a knockoff of a gorgeous Isabella Oliver maternity top, that my friend really liked… but let’s just admit it straight off that that top is way way too expensive! So anyway, after spending some time drafting the pattern and making hers, I realised what an unbelievably easy top it was to make, and really wanted to share it with you guys!

Of course, digitizing a full size pattern takes a lot of time and effort, which is why I’ve been reluctant to do it in the past, and why it’s taken me so long to get this post up, but if you guys like it, then it was totally worth it! So let me know what you think ok?

2010-01-10 5

The top’s concept is simple, it just has two really long sashes that you wrap around you until you get the look you want. Of course the really cool thing is that you get a perfectly fitted look no matter how pregnant you are. Genius.

So if you want to make one of your own, download the FREE pattern and getting sewing!! And hey if you have any preggers friends, let them know too :)

China doll valentine

2010-02-14 4

I’m still feeling pretty rotten (damned evil cold from hell!!), but I remembered I forgot to show you guys my Valentines outfit. Hey, I’m a self-confessed lover of dressing to a theme… so I couldn’t help myself but put on something ridiculously over the top pinky pinky to celebrate Valentines day. Sue me! I of course had to giggle when Hubby’s said ” You look so pretty, you look like… a China doll!”… he’s so funny!

I’ve also developed quite an obsession with turning my broaches into headbands… I can’t help it, I’ve always been a fan of the traditional Alice band, but discovering this this style has opened up just another way for me to enjoy headbands. (Plus I really really like having flowers in my hair!)

Meanwhile, a little while ago my mother in law sent me a box of her gorgeous scarves to wear. I’ve had so much fun wearing them in the conventional way , but I thought I’d try something a little different this time and wear it as a belt, rather than crack out my standard brown belt. I like how it ended up looking like a big bow in the front.

2010-02-14 2

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines day! Though I did spend the whole weekend really sick with a cold, my wonderful Hubby still got me a giant card, huge bunch of flowers and more chocolate than one girl can consume – Even Bunny got a little bunch of flowers from Daddy. Am feeling like a lucky gal :)

By the way, did I mention I’ll be 39 wks pregnant on Friday? This pregnancy has just flown by. Though from now on it’ll probably drag on, as every morning i’ll probably wake up thinking, is today the day?!?!

Love notes from… the cutlery

IMG_4497

I love how my Hubby always hides little post it love notes all over the house for me to find later… what I love even more, is every now and then when he throws in a silly one. Like a note to me, from the cutlery. I had no idea my knives and forks liked me so much!!

Finding this little note (and one from my laptop), getting to sleep in and waking up to a house cleaned by my Hubby, are all making the fact that I have a really horrible cold slightly more bearable. I think getting sick when you’re 38.5 wks pregnant is a cruel cruel joke! And now like any ‘mature’ person I just need to find some unsuspecting person to blame for my misfortune…

Urgh… cough… splutter

Hemming, rediscoveries and random musings

2010-02-12 1

I’m always amazed by how much difference a really little alteration to a piece of clothing can make. I loved this dress the minute I tried it on, but the length was sooo mumsie. I can’t stand wearing anything that hits me between my knee and calf. It’s an awful unflattering length. And that’s exactly where this dress sat. Every time I wore it I felt super short. But I knew it would be a lot cuter if I hemmed it. I ended up taking the hem up by a massive 4 inches… but I’m soooo much happier with the result.

Plus the empire waist and all the gathering is making it work really well right now when pretty much nothing fits over my belly. It literally looks like I have a basketball taped to me these days, which of course makes me wonder how on earth all that tummy can defy gravity so well! After two pregnancies I’ve got a huge amount of respect for my body, it just blows my mind that it was built to do this, and then go back to normal again after!?! It’s nothing short of miraculous.

2010-02-12 3

Meanwhile, I recently rediscovered this cardigan in the back of my wardrobe, such a happy moment! I’ve had it so long I can’t even remember when I bought it… college? highschool? I don’t know, but it must be one of those, because I bought it in the Miss Shop in Myer (which for my non-Aussie friends is the juniors section of an Australian department store)… now I feel like I shouldn’t even admit I got it there, but I dont’ think it looks juvenile, so it’s fine right?? Anyway, I’m still really bored with my hair at the moment, so I’m trying to wear it slightly different ways… not sure if this was a total hit, but I kind of like it none the less.
