The result of my creative process… Hello ruffle dress!

Dress by Meg, Background by God

And just like that it’s all over!! So after much-ado, here is the result of my pains… my ruffle dress!! What do you guys think?

Personally I’m in love, and I’m determined to wear it everywhere from now on… I’m really happy that I decided to go with this colour rather than the pink. I think it would have been a little too much look!

And I”m especially glad that I put in that big effort to get it all finished quickly this week… I’d been spending so much time on the pattern, and talking about the pattern, that I was starting to hate the dress before I’d even made it! But I nipped my crazies in the bud, and now I’m sooooo  happy with my little dress. The really nice thing about drafting my own pattern, was that it fits perfectly. I think everyone should sew, it’s such an amazing hobby.

The colour really isn’t coming out well… it’s a very pale sage green, but looks rather beige in the pics. Ah yes, I am no photographer!!

But seriously guys, should I make another? Or is it silly to have multiples of the same dress in your wardrobe? I think I may go for a similar shape, in a print fabric, sans ruffles?

ruffle-front-dress4It’s beautifully stormy today… loads of thunder, and the clouds look amazing. I have to say that Iowa has the most amazing storms I’ve experienced in my entire life, and believe me I’ve lived in a lot of places! Sometimes I walk into a store and the skies are blue, and I walk out to a thunder storm. As I’m writing this the rain has suddenly started pouring… I feel the urge to run in it… it’s freaking awesome.

  • Su Su:

I was anxious to see how the dress turned out…. it’s perfect!!!
And absolutely, make more. Def. not silly to have multiples of the same dress.

  • Very cute dress! It looks great and I agree with SU, you can multiples of the same dress! Congrats on finishing!

  • Lovely dress, I’d want one in every color! I love your shoes, too!

The background of your photos is always so wonderful, such an expressive sky there in Iowa.

  • You did an awesome job!! This looks like something you would buy from J Crew.

  • Laurie Laurie:

Too Cute! I love dresses and this one is a charmer. Yes make another and another! I’m sure before you even cut the next one out you will already thought of a new detail to make it special. This is a great color too with the while color etc. Great Job! And I am with you I LOVE TO SEW. Just wish ther were more hours in the day!

  • I’d definitely make more of them. It’s a very flatting shape on you. And if you vary the details a bit – different types of collars, maybe some pockets, maybe some appliqué or other types of decoration, etcetera – people probably won’t even notice that it’s the same dress pattern!

  • You can make me one if you like….!
I think the colour choice is perfect.

This is really inspiring me to actually make something from a pattern instead of making it up as I go along.
But I think I’ll start with buying a pattern first.

This dress is perfect and I would make a million of them! I don’t think pink would be “too much look” at all, just ultra feminine. And isn’t that the point of a ruffle dress anyway?

  • I LOVE that dress! It is beautiful….and the color totally works…you’re right, pink would have been a bit overdone. The billow at the bottom is fabulous and the pleating is perfect! I am amazed. Great job!

  • dana dana:

it’s ADORABLE. I love it! And very flattering on you!

  • You look amazing! Love the dress.. a print sans ruffles would be great as well…it is a very flattering shape on you.

  • Meg:

Thanks for all of the incredibly kind comments everyone! You’ve made my day :)

  • Job well done! It looks great. All that hard work was definately worth it huh? I would make another, for sure. It’s super cute!

LOVE IT. Definitely something like you’d find in the stores, of course this one is much better. I like the colour choice. I think pink would be too much… a pink dress like that would work on a little girl but I personally think it might be pushing it on a grown woman! Other colours would look great too. So glad you finished it! xo

  • Meg:

    Thanks gals!! LOVE you all!

  • Emma Emma:

Oh my gosh! It’s SO CUTE! It fits you so well.

  • Meg:

    Thanks!!

  • Amy Amy:

You really should make another! Any thoughts on making a matching version for Bunny? I think that would be very styling mommy/daughter look!

  • Meg:

Amy that is pure genius!!! I never thought of making one for bunny but that would be too precious!

  • A mother-daughter dress set would be perfect with this design. I remember my mom making such a set, but pinafores for the 3 of us, which included my younger sister, back in the 40’s. It might stick in your daughters mind, always, as mine does with the set Mom made for all 3 of us, many, many years later…. Please post this one and if you do up a mother-daughter one too at http://www.flickr.com/groups/prfriends/ to share with others.

  • Very pretty dress. Love the ruffle. Bravo!
